| “ | This is a highly experimental tool gained from reverse engineering the Rushing Drift mechanism used in the Faction wars. Engage after you have reach maximum velocity to slowly gain even more speed. Danger! The tool is slightly defective, and you ship will take double damage from any impact, including ship, rocks, and the Nemesis and Phobos guns. | ” |

Drift Sail is a helm tool used to temporarily decrease the drag coefficients of ship in price of reducing thrust of a ship's engines, thus increasing the top maximum speed, but decreasing acceleration, both longitudal and angular. Therefore, the best result can be achieved with long-distance runs, while the use for maneuvering in dogfight is absolutely counterproductive. In addition, a decrease in lateral drag can help to perform maneuvers involving lateral drift of the ship, which cannot be performed in any other way, but the possibilities are doubtful.
Drift Sail don't do any damage to engines during use, unlike another helms tools which operate with horizontal maneuverability, but its use as stay alone tool is usually assumed at a time when the ship has already gained a certain speed.
Due to the delay in deactivation, this tool can be effectively combined with other helm tools like Kerosene, Moonshine, or Phoenix Claw, this allows you to further increase the maximum speed of the ship.
Common Usage
The best result from use can be obtained on large-sized maps, where it is supposed to cover a long distance, such as in the Crazy King mode or parts of the PvE modes, allowing you to use ships even with a low base maximum speed. However, the requirements for a set of steering tools for maneuvering in close range combat essentially limit the use of this tool.
