Factions ‣ Fjord Baronies
“ | A desperate time calls for desperate measures, including ways to protect and serve the populace. Descended from the leadership of an army of the Great War, the lords and protectors of the Fjord Baronies face a daunting challenge. They’ve successfully watched over their lands and people for many generations but the arrival of the Age of Air threatens their feudal way of life. With dwindling resources in the Chattering Fjords, the king and his lords realize they must venture farther and claim lands for their growing population. | ” |

The Fjord Baronies are a feudal society, built around distinct dictated social and economical ranks and roles. Each rank supports and is supported by the other, with peasants working the fields in exchange for protection from the knights or knights providing military support for the lords in exchange for land and food.
Even though the Fjord Baronies have dictated social ranks, they fend for their people, including newcomers who pledge their loyalty and do good work for their lords. Due to strong leadership and true loyalties — a tight bond between the social ranks has formed — the Baronies have been prosperous for a number of years.
However, as war grows near, and the comforts of their once prosperous lives slowly fade away, more and more families come to seek protection and refuge with lords, away from the ravaged lands and territorial conflict led by surrounding factions. With the seas to the east and the tundra to the north, their lands offer little room to move to seek shelter from the war.
The commoners plead for Baronies protection but the lords must push and expand to new grounds in order to support their own and preserve the lives of generations to come.
Government
The highest authority, both politically and in matters of interpreting the Creed, is the King's Seat, supported by the royal court. Beyond that are the barons, who have control over single baronies, and minor lords.
Commoners are required by the Creed to serve their lords, and most faithfully do so. The more ambitious ones may try to rise in ranks, but they will meet fierce opposition from those above them.
The Creed
The driving power behind the society of the Fjord Baronies is the Creed, a religious text containing rules to structure the lifes of members of all social ranks. The Creed is what inspires commoners to work hard for their lords and what justifies the lords to set out to conquer more land that was promised to them by the words of the Creed.
