Kerosene is the most used helm tool. It increases the thrust of a ship's engines, allowing the ship to reach a faster terminal velocity, and higher acceleration. However, the use of Kerosene also impedes the ship's ability to turn and applies minor damage to the engines.
The reduced ability to turn can be used to 'absorb' rams – making the ship less likely to deflect into a random direction. The push effect created by mine explosions and Minotaur hits can be lessened using Kerosene as well. This feature can also be used to cancel the inertia of turning and stabilizing the ship in the desired direction.
Kerosene is very similar to Moonshine but provides less increased acceleration, lower top speed and less stabilization while damaging the engines significantly less. Unlike Moonshine, Kerosene can be used constantly provided the engines are periodically repaired.
Like all helm tools it is only useful for the player flying the ship and has no effect if equipped by other crew members.
Common Usage
Kerosene is commonly found on all ships, making it both the most equipped and the most used piloting tool.
